Add Your Voice to the Conversation on Education!

September 15, 2009

Please take a few moments to follow this link to the U.S. Department of Education web log and post your questions and comments regarding the federal role in education for gifted children. Tonight’s Town Hall meeting will be broadcast between 8-9 p.m. EST and questions are encouraged by web post (now) or by phone or email during the meeting.

If you don’t know where to begin – you can read NAGC’s August letter to Secretary Duncan ( a plea for stimulus money for gifted)  here to help you get started.  Also, you may wish to peruse “Doing Better for Children”, a report released on September 1, 2009 by The Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD)  which stated that among the 30 member countries, 15 year old U.S. students “rank seventh from the bottom on the OECD’s measure of mean literacy performance, which is the average of the mathematics, reading, and science literacy scores on the PISA international test.”  See the full report here.

I sincerely hope that this opportunity to discuss issues of critical importance is not sidelined by politicians with axes to grind or parties with agendas intended to obfuscate.   That would accomplish nothing.   Let’s keep the conversation focused on the children – and try to ensure that high ability children have a voice this time.
